WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE?

The sooner the better! Most expecting parents book their newborn session during the 2nd trimester. I take a limited number of newborns each month, so that I can maintain the flexibility necessary for these sessions. I know that there is a good chance your baby will come earlier or later than his/her official due date. We always pencil the due date onto the calendar and make adjustments on the date of the session based on the birth of your little one.  I ask parents contact me a day or two after baby has arrived to confirm and schedule the exact session date/time.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?

Newborns are best photographed during the first two weeks of life. Newborn sessions can be done later, but your baby will not sleep as easily through the posing and may also not curl into all the cuddly newborn poses.

All newborn sessions currently take place in Belle Plaine, MN. I have a space in my home to use as a studio, but I also share a commercial studio space with another photographer located in Belle Plaine. Depending on your session we can discuss which setting is your preference. It is complete with all props, backdrops, outfits and accessories we will need for your session.  Curl up in front of my fireplace, sit back and relax.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A SESSION AND HOW DO I PREPARE?

I keep the studio space warm to help keep your little one comfortable. So please dress appropriately. White noise is played to assure baby is sleeping through poses. Sessions are baby led and can take 1-3 hours depending on which session your selected. You will receive a session prep guide prior to your session. Please do your best to follow the suggestions. If you are breastfeeding, be prepared to nurse on demand or bring extra bottles if bottle feeding. If breastfeeding, please avoid spicy foods the day prior to your session and the day of your session. I also suggest a pacifier for all babies, even if you are not using one. It is a soothing tool to use when baby is not hungry, but needs pacification while being posed.

I usually do parent and sibling poses at the beginning of the session. With that in mind, I often suggest that dad or another trusted family member take the siblings out during the portion of the session that they are not being photographed. Siblings can get restless in a warm small studio.

When you book a session, you will receive a questionnaire to fill out. It will help give me direction as far as color choices or specific theme requests. From there, I will choose props, outfits, backdrops and accessories that I feel will accomplish the look you desire. If during the session, something that I am using isn’t something you love, speak up and we can make changes to accommodate your desired look.

No pose is guaranteed. Each baby has their own likes and dislikes and the session will be “baby lead”. This means that if your baby is not happy with a certain pose, we will move on to something else.
